Cinnamon Recipes

Recent studies show that consuming cinnamon can increase glucose metabolism, triggering insulin release -- which also affects cholesterol metabolism. Researchers speculated that cinnamon might improve both cholesterol and glucose.

Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
Level One

Cinnamon has been shown to make cells more insulin sensitive which helps fight diabetes. Dark Chocolate is loaded with antioxidants. This cocoa recipe combines these two super foods.

1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup Splenda, granular
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup water
2 cups milk, Hood Calorie Countdown milk
Cool Whip Elite or Cool Whip Free topping

In a saucepan, mix chocolate, sugar, coffee, cinnamon and water. Heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Stir constantly. Simmer for about 4 minutes, while stirring. Add milk and heat through without boiling.

Remove from heat and whisk until foamy. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

Cinnamon Tea
Level One

6 cups water
5 cinnamon sticks
tea bags

PREPARATION: In a teapot or saucepan, combine cinnamon sticks and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Bring back to a boil and pour into cups with a tea bag. Add teaspoon of sugar per cup or as desired.

Baked Cinnamon Apples
Level Two

Butter Flavored cooking spray
4 tart apples, sliced in half and cored
1/4 tsp cinnamon per apple half
1/2 tsp granular Splenda per apple half

Slice apples and core them. Place in a pyrex baking pan. Spray each apple with butter flavored cooking spray. Sprinkle 1/4 tsp cinnamon on each apple half. sprinkle each apple half with 1/2 tsp granular Splenda. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Serves 4.

1 cup Calorie countdown milk
1 serving Fiber One Cereal, or Bran Buds, or Oatmeal
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp granular Splenda
